This One is Different. Omicron Reshapes the Workplace.

While the media has focused on Omicron's limited lethality compared to earlier Covid variants there's much more to it than ICU beds and fatalities.

Our medical officer of health, Bonnie Henry, is warning employers to prepare for a third of their staff to be grounded by the Omicron variant. One third.

"We need to anticipate that as many as a third of your workforce at any one time may become ill with COVID-19 and they may not be able to come to work, and we need to adapt businesses so we can operate at these reduced numbers. Whether you're a private company, a school, a frontline business or health care site, now's the time that we have to prepare."

Across Canada, health authorities are flying blind because their ability to test and monitor infections has been overwhelmed.

The hope is that Omicron runs its course within two or three months before abating to a manageable level.

  1. You asked earlier for an example of a public health official better than our hapless St. Bonnie d'Henry. I pointed to NZ but I could have just pointed to Ottawa.

"Henry (BC-PHO): "Schools are the safest place for our children.”
Tam (Chief PHO of Canada}: "Schools are the most concerning setting where we see the most transmission.""

    1. Dr. Bonnie Henry: "I want to get out of the order business."

Then she's in the wrong job and a danger to us all.

    2. Cherry picking, NPoV. Do you want to go over Dr. Tam's "greatest hits" from the past two years? Didn't think so.

  2. Dr BH stated yesterday that there were no testing kits stockpiled in BC. Not true. Over 1 million test kits are stockpiled.

It's hard to believe that 1/3 of the workforce will be sick at one time. Think about it. 1/3 of the population sick at once? Fear mongering. I've lost confidence in Dr BH.
