Legault Moves Against Anti-Vaxxers

The Quebec government has had it with anti-vaxxers.  

Adult Quebecers who won’t get vaccinated and don’t have a medical exemption will be forced to pay a health “contribution,” Quebec Premier Francois Legault told reporters on Tuesday. Legault said the amount of the penalty hasn’t been decided but will be “significant.”

About 10 per cent of adult Quebecers aren’t vaccinated, but they represent about half of all patients in intensive care, Legault said, adding that the unvaccinated should be forced to pay for the extra burden they are placing on the health-care system.

There are no details about the amount of the penalties, how they'll be levied or how they'll be collected. Those details will be a factor in the inevitable court challenges.

    We have seen what the great unwashed and unchallenged have done in the US and other countries politics and covid restrictions.
    We, the world, opened the gate of the lunatic asylum and now they dictate our every move.

    I think Legault has a powerful case. The nature of this pandemic has been established. It's not speculative. To a court, this is a compelling distinction.

    We know the collateral damage inflicted on the innocent - others with serious diseases and conditions who now cannot obtain timely diagnostics, surgery or other treatments leading to the loss of many lives (ask any oncologist, cardiologist or physicians who specialize in geriatrics). The president of the CMA herself has been outspoken on this point. This introduces an element of irreparable harm.

    There is no evidence of statistically relevant death or loss resulting from the vaccine. This goes to the "balance" test.

    Then there is the element of emergency. An old Brit spoke of growing up in London during the blitz and how people were strictly obliged to use blackout curtains to prevent the Heinkels overhead from finding their targets. The parallels are obvious.

The Gun We Point at Our Own Heads

  If you're sitting at a table and there's a loaded pistol in front of you, do you pick it up and point it at your own head?  Probably not, unless something has gone terribly, terribly wrong. Who Asks "Why?"

Every time there's a conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians, all we hear is 'why?'  Why, as in, whose fault is this? It's easier to affix blame if you can truncate the event. Pick a convenient start date, something recent. In this case we'll make it either the Israeli eviction of Arabs from Jerusalem or the scuffle that took place outside the mosque in response. If those don't work, let's go for Hamas launching unguided rockets into Israel. That's even better because it tags Hamas with the blame. The nice thing about this approach is you can just keep using it. It goes on and on, just as it has for the past half-century since the '67 war.
