A Useful Reminder

In the beginning of human civilization, wildlife made up most of mammalian life on Earth.  By comparison, humans were almost insignificant.

Today, in this Anthropocene, our man-made geological epoch, mankind constitutes 36 per cent of the biomass of all mammals, our livestock is 60 per cent, leaving wildlife reduced to just 4 per cent. We and the critters we breed to eat are now 96 per cent of the total mammalian biomass.

We have transformed our planet, Earth, into our very own ranch.
