They Work - Canadian Study Shows All Major Vaccines Effective Against Delta
The Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus, generally thought to be far more transmissible, is apparently no match for the three vaccines being administered in Canada; Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZenica.
A recent Israeli study found that Pfizer vaccine was notably less effective against transmission of the Delta variant but that they still greatly reduced the risk of severe infection requiring hospitalization.
A subsequent Canadian study finds the vaccines "extremely effective" against all variants of the virus.
“Our findings suggest that even a single dose of these three vaccine products provides good to excellent protection against symptomatic infection and severe outcomes caused by the four currently circulating variants of concern, and that two doses are likely to provide even higher protection,” the authors concluded. The study’s results showed that being fully vaccinated gives a person roughly the same protection against Delta as Alpha, Beta and Gamma. The data shows that the vaccines are doing even better than previous studies suggested against the variants in terms of symptomatic infection as well as hospitalization and death.Macleans has published charts showing the relative effectiveness of the three vaccines. Now, to tackle the problem of vaccine hesitancy and resistance.
"vaccine hesitancy and resistance"
ReplyDeleteSpeaking as someone who has an anti-vax family member, I'd say heavy social sanction.
Step 1: Wanna ferry ticket? Lets see your vaccine status!
Step 2: Wanna bus ticket/store entrance?
etc
It may come to that, NPoV. If we have another flare up forcing further lockdown we may have to work out the social cost of this anti-social behaviour.
Delete.. Boss declared she wanted chicken wings at St Louis patio Yonge and Eglinton & copious light beers on the day we hit 14 days post 2nd vaccine. I know the place inside out as me and my hockey buds were Louis 1st customers. I nailed a great patio table accordingly and we pounded the hot wings.. Service was top drawer. They tracked us with names and phone numbers, address & I only went inside, masked to say hi to the bartender .. It was nigh 2 years since I was in there. We TTC'd home and let dogs out. I also scored bottles of hot sauce and the garlic dip and we tipped like we were royalty cuz we felt like it. Boss used to walk up after work most Thursday's as she takes Friday off
ReplyDeleteIt felt like a black cloud was lifting.. and sun breaking through. It's been a long time coming and this dude appreciates how science came through big time.. and how procurement worked. Boss is a logistics rock star.. and got us aligned re 1st and 2nd vaccine. My son is pregnant and they sitting on 2 vaccine two. Daughter in law family arrived from Peru and did it by the book re quarantine..
It's not actually hard to conform .. Put your seat belt on, don't steal books from the library, don't litter, never hit a child ever.. and just get over the urge to fire off fireworks, walk the dogs, eat hot dogs when ya want.. and relish the chicken wings with garlic dip
I hope the return to normal succeeds. It's the anti-vaxxers who worry me. Their numbers are too high and they're like a strong breeze to embers.
DeleteThis time if, as in the past, we see the virus numbers flare as they did in Britain, I hope we have the sand to handle the Typhoid Marys in our midst. Those who are vaccinated ought to have the peace of mind of knowing those around them are almost certainly also vaccinated at least until we achieve genuine herd immunity, a goal some say may elude us because of the number rejecting vaccination.
