The Wide World of - Covid.
Tokyo is going back into Covid lockdown. Just in time for the Olympics. The games will continue but ticket holders won't be there.
Such is life on the Covid-19 roller coaster.
Japan is not alone. South Korea and other parts of the Asia Pacific are experiencing a wave of new infections attributed to the Delta variant. Many of these countries were exemplars in the early days of the pandemic. Not so much anymore.
Joe Biden's vaccination campaign has failed to overcome vaccine hesitancy, especially in Red State America.
More than nine out of 10 Americans who died from Covid-19 in the US in June were unvaccinated, according to Dr Anthony Fauci – a statistic that health officials say is especially concerning given the prevalence of vaccine hesitancy in some regions and the rise of the Delta variant.Vaccination rates vary widely by state and region, with states on the west coast and in the north-east seeing the highest rates, while states in the south are seeing some of the lowest.
Some vaccine hesitancy appears to be closely tied to political beliefs, with a recent poll showing almost twice as many declared Democrats as Republicans saying they had been vaccinated.
I suppose the good news is that Canada has no shared border with 'slave state' America, the land of guns, god and the dreaded Delta variant. Oh well. Natural selection, I suppose.
