Ex-enviromin, Cathy McKenna, has unveiled the Liberals climate election goodie. It's an extra 1.4 billion dollar fund for disaster mitigation and adaptation.
Wow, that sounds like a lot of money but compare it to the 23 billion the feds and petro-provinces have shelled out for pipeline construction and support these past three years and then it's sounding pretty chintzy. But wait, there's more (there always is, isn't there?).
That's $1.4 billion over 12 years, around $120 million per year. Now stack that up against $23 billion for pipelines since 2018 or about $6 billion per year. That's 50 times more for pipelines than for the climate catastrophe unfolding before our very eyes across Canada.
