It's Time to Tell Rex Murphy to Crawl Back Under His Rock
Among the ranks of Canada's climate change deniers, Rex Murphy is in the vanguard.
In January, Murphy and a couple of his favourite rightwing brothers hosted a webinar. Their message: Don’t Listen to ‘Television and Radio’, They Want You to Believe That Climate Change is Real.
The event, titled “Pushing Back the Great Reset,” was organized by the think tank formerly known as the Manning Centre which now goes by a brand new name: “The Canada Strong and Free Network.”Murphy, one of Canada Strong and Free Network’s Zoom webinar guest, has been a longtime favourite speaker at right-wing oil industry events.
In his spiel, Murphy railed against the “totalitarian ideology” of environmentalism, bemoaned the idea of reducing his carbon footprint and, at one point, suggested climate activist Greta Thunberg’s warnings came from an “Apollo shrine in Greece.”
Murphy concluded his remarks by asking viewers to “defy” conventional thinking on climate science and stop listening to “what you hear on almost every single television and radio station, because they are drenched in this garbage.”
The panel didn't focus solely on the climate change hoax. Toronto Sun columnist, Anthony Furey, accused the "Great Reset" - the unnamed conspirators - of using the pandemic to advance a communist agenda.
I expect Rex will lay low on the climate conspiracy for a while. Lytton's four days in hell doesn't sound like much of a hoax.

I have noticed more climate denial this week: not just on right wing wingnut sites but everywhere. The more apparent the climate emergency gets the louder the deniers get.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen that Rumley but I haven't been looking. Where do you find these types? If, after this past week, the deniers are doubling down it seems to echo the mentality of Trump's base. Are we really getting our own political movement completely detached from fact?
DeleteSo, it’s “The Canada Strong and Free Network” now. I haven’t been paying attention.
ReplyDeleteThey’ve gone in a complete circle back to where the Western Guard and Northern Alliance started, only they’ve added some newbies – the Science Teacher Haters - to the now welcomed-back people-haters they kicked out when they started to call themselves “Reform” and assumed a pretense of scholarship with the help of the lying libertarian economists (whether “practicing” or simply prostituting). It really didn’t take much conflating. Rex is just there to take some bows, and probably some cash, that he doesn’t really deserve.
Well, John, denialism doesn't seem to be working for the Tories. JT seems to be capitalizing on the O'Toole virus.
