We've Got'em On the Run Now, Boys.

 

We, humankind, are putting nature to rout and that's not good for any species including our own.

A new study in Nature, Ecology and Evolution of 160 species on six continents finds that human activity is forcing other animals to venture ever farther "to live, hunt and forage."

"The research says: 'Even a small change in movement can have big impacts on an individual, and when these costs accumulate across an entire population, reproductive rates and population viability may be compromised.'"

    A 250 acre area ,just down the road from me, is about to be clear-cut or moonscaped as the loggers call it, for the simple reason of raising money for delinquent taxes!
    Vancouver Island is littered with such properties where ,often Alberta, developers come to town expecting the same cowboy governmental attitudes they are used to.
    The area is full of wildlife , deer, raccoons, eagles owls and all other raptors plus vibrant Tanagers and American Goldfinch.
    As the local area has slowly built up at half an acre a time we see deer daily in our yard.
    With 250 acres gone in one fell swoop it will be difficult for wildlife to adjust and I expect to see more of it in our yard and more carcasses on the roadside.
    What could be more concerning are the odd bear and cougar that pass through every now and again.
    Mrs Pumfries Swiffer dog could well be in danger!

    Habitat loss is not the only problem our wildlife has to contend with .
    They have to also deal with food source loss.
    Over fishing due to poor regulation and advances in fishing technology has led to the destruction of fish stocks( support Living Oceans ) .
    Daily I see bald eagles scavenging around the local landfill; this never occurred ten years go.
    Wildlife goes where the food is!

Who Asks "Why?"

Every time there's a conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians, all we hear is 'why?'  Why, as in, whose fault is this? It's easier to affix blame if you can truncate the event. Pick a convenient start date, something recent. In this case we'll make it either the Israeli eviction of Arabs from Jerusalem or the scuffle that took place outside the mosque in response. If those don't work, let's go for Hamas launching unguided rockets into Israel. That's even better because it tags Hamas with the blame.
