How Are You Supposed to Tell Them Apart?
What does it mean when one "weather alert" blurs into the next?
Environment Canada today issued a heavy rain alert for the coast. Some spots could get up to 200 mm. It's an "atmospheric river," a.k.a. the "Pineapple Express."
How do we extinguish today's atmospheric river from yesterday's or the one before that? The difference between an atmospheric river and a "bomb cyclone" is that the later comes with really weird winds that can change direction in a heartbeat.
I guess this is our new normal, the biblical wet season interlude between "heat dome" and wildfire season.
