McConnell - Capitol Insurrection was "Provoked" by Trump

Maybe it's because he knows Trump will be gone from the White House in less than 24 hours but, for whatever reason, still Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, has come out with his harshest verdict on Donald Trump's role in the January 6th attack on the Capitol building.

Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, said on Tuesday that the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 had been “provoked by the president and other powerful people,” stating publicly for the first time that he holds President Trump at least partly responsible for the assault.

The mob was fed lies,” Mr. McConnell said, referring to attempts by Mr. Trump to overturn the election based on bogus claims of voter fraud. “They were provoked by the president and other powerful people. And they tried to use fear and violence to stop a specific proceeding of the first branch of the federal government which they did not like.”

It sure sounds as though Mitch figures Donald Trump did exactly what the House articles of impeachment claims he did - incite the insurrection. Maybe, in future years, January 6th should be celebrated as America's very own Guy Fawkes Day.

  1. Remember, remember, the Fifth of November
    Gunpowder treason and plot
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
    Should ever be forgot

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, 'twas his intent
To blow up the King and the Parliament
Three score barrels of powder below
    Poor old England to overthrow
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match
Holler boys, holler boys, let the bells ring
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the King!

    1. When I was in grade school, we were required to recite a specified number of lines of poetry. Memory work stuff, I suppose. I chose "The Creation of Sam McGee." That fulfilled the requirement. Now, tell me. Is this Guy Fawkes piece something you remembered?

    2. Lots of memory work in my academic Ontario high school.
Shakespeare, Poe ... Service of course.

But my knowledge of the Fawkes poem is pop-culture related & tied directly to the fabulous movie, V for Vendetta, a must-watch.

    1. What do you think Trump has on Lindsey, Ben? Does he have a stable of rentboys? Whatever it is, Graham is still dancing when Trump pulls his strings.
