I Can Hear the Anti-Vaxxers Now

There was an item in yesterday's Jerusalem Post about Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine. Apparently in the testing the vaccine may have caused the death of two patients, one of whom turned out to be immuno-compromised. I hadn't read that in the North American media. Further down in the article it was noted that, while two vaccine recipients had died, four of the control group who weren't given the vaccine also died. Make of it what you will.

Britain began administering the Pfizer vaccine to high-risk individuals yesterday. Today we learn that two of them, health care workers, had an adverse reaction to the vaccine. UK officials are now advising people with serious allergies to avoid the Pfizer vaccine.

National Health Service medical director Stephen Powis said the advice had been changed after two NHS workers reported anaphylactoid reactions associated with receiving the vaccine. They were among the thousands who received the shot on Tuesday.

“As is common with new vaccines the MHRA (regulator) have advised on a precautionary basis that people with a significant history of allergic reactions do not receive this vaccination, after two people with a history of significant allergic reactions responded adversely yesterday,” Powis said.

“Both are recovering well.”

That's about all the anti-vaxxers will need to start circulating their latest conspiracy theories. Somehow Bill Gates must have something to do with this.

Don't knock poor results too soon!

  2. Hi, TB. It's been a while. I think the vaccine is excellent. My hope is that Moderna's offering, which isn't so delicate and thus more viable for remote communities, is even better.

  3. Welcome back, its been too long.
If its Sputnik or any other offering that works I will take the risk.
Risk it is when fast tracking such drugs.
I say fast track as Trumps warp speed gives me visions of Star Treck , the last frontier , Disney , batman and other US offerings that have almost become reality to many Americans.

  4. Hey Mound
    Good to see you back.

As for vaccine danger ... I do not wish to be last in line for the vaccine but I am actually quite content not to be at the head of the line this time around.

  5. The anti vaxxers -- like Trump's zombies -- aren't going away, Mound. I like the new look.

  6. Hey, NPoV. Good to be back, I think.

By the time they vaccinate nursing home inmates and healthcare workers we'll have a good idea about the safety and effectiveness of these vaccines. At 71 I think it will be a few months before I get the boarding call.

    1. At 71, !!
i always knew I was dealing with a juvenile!

      Take care, be safe.

  7. At some point, Owen, we may have to consider how we engage with anti-vaxxers. If they opt out they're choosing to put the public at risk. Yes, they have rights but what rights come without conditions, responsibilities and, sometimes, consequences?
